Growing Deeper, a major new publication was launched today (Monday 7th January 2013) by the Diocese of Derry and Raphoe. Specially written and produced by the diocese it is designed to be a spiritual companion for people throughout the New Year.
Explaining the purpose behind Growing Deeper Bishop Ken Good said, “We know we ought to deepen our spiritual roots, but sometimes it can be difficult to find ways to help us make progress. Our purpose in producing this book has been to provide people with an easy-to-use pattern of spiritual exercises which anyone can find helpful”.
Growing Deeper has been written by members of the diocese and is built around the theme of Christian faith as a ‘journey’. It is designed with the knowledge that we are all different and our ‘journeys’ may look different. Bishop Good continued, “Some of us ‘see things’ more artistically, others appreciate music, and there are lots who prefer practical activity to academic learning. That is why we have produced a book that will be helpful for all of these approaches. It is certainly not just for ‘bookish’ people”.
Thousands of copies of Growing Deeper have already been distributed across the diocese and beyond. Rev Judi McGaffin, who chaired the group that produced the book, said “Journeys are usually easier when we share them. Anyone who uses this resource will know that every day hundreds of people will be sharing it with them at the same time”. She continued, “This is often a time for making new resolutions. We look into a new year with a mixture of excitement, anticipation and sometimes with uncertainty. Whoever we are and whatever our circumstances Growing Deeper is designed to be a spiritual companion as we move into 2013”
Growing Deeper is available from every parish in the diocese, The Diocesan Office or by making contact throughwww.derry.anglican.org. It is priced at £3 or €3 + postage.
