The five new priests who were ordained in September’s historic service at Glendermott Parish Church were reunited for the first time since at the See House this week.
The new presbyters – the Rev Liz Fitzgerald, Rev Nigel Cairns, Rev Rhys Jones, Rev Jonathan McFarland and Rev Robert Wray – joined Bishop Ken Good and the Archdeacon of Derry, Ven. Robert Miller on Wednesday for a Service of Holy Communion and to discuss how they were settling into their new roles.
The group were joined by Bishop’s Curates Rev Judi McGaffin, Rev Naomi Quinn, Rev Suzanne Cousins and Rev Robbie Robinson, and the assembled clergy shared their experiences of ordained life, discussing - among other things - the heavy workload of clergy and the isolation of ministry in rural parishes.
Bishop Good – who earlier this year celebrated the 40th anniversary of his ordination – told the new priests that clergy in the Diocese of Derry and Raphoe were committed to working in teams. Both he and Archdeacon Miller encouraged them to avail of the support offered by more senior colleagues.
