Delegates from the Diocese of Derry and Raphoe have been getting an insight this week into the preparations needed to host a successful Church of Ireland General Synod.
The spotlight will fall on Londonderry next year when the city will have the honour of hosting General Synod for the first time. Hundreds of delegates from all across Ireland will descend on the Millennium Forum from 16th-18th of May.
Bishop Ken Good has assured delegates of a warm welcome in Derry-Londonderry. “It is vibrant, it is energetic, it is culturally strong and I think you will enjoy it,” the Bishop told delegates at the 2018 Synod in Armagh.
This year’s Synod will be hard to surpass. For two of the three days, Armagh was bathed in splendid sunshine. Derry will have the weather – and possibly Brexit – to contend with, when it extends the hand of welcome next year.
