Napoleon is reputed to have observed that ‘An army marches on its stomach’. The Rev Canon Paul Whittaker must have come to the same conclusion. On Thursday members of the Derry Rural Deanery gathered in Ali’s Steakhouse, in Ballymagorry, for breakfast.
The get-together took place ahead of their first meeting in quite some time. Canon Whittaker – Rector of Leckpatrick and Dunnalong – reckoned that a convivial breakfast might drive up numbers for the meeting. Around a dozen members of the local clergy responded.
Fortified by a splendid breakfast, which they enjoyed in good humour, the clergy repaired to the nearby Rectory in Leckpatrick to focus on the more serious fare on offer on the Rural Deanery’s ‘menu’.
